Privacy Policy — Avg Speed Monitor
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Avg Speed Monitor ("the app") is developed by TechBrew SRL ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with. The app is an Android overlay that shows your live cumulative average speed while driving through average-speed enforcement zones — it does not replace your navigation app.
Purpose of the app and disclaimer
Avg Speed Monitor is intended solely as an aid to help you respect posted average-speed limits and drive within them while passing through average-speed enforcement zones. It is a supplementary tool, not a guarantee of compliance, and it does not replace your own attention to road signage, posted speed limits, or applicable traffic laws.
We are not responsible or liable for any speeding tickets, fines, penalty points, license suspensions, or other sanctions or consequences arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or outdated zone data, calculation errors, GPS/location inaccuracies, or misuse of the app. You remain solely responsible for observing posted speed limits and complying with traffic laws at all times.
Zone data sources (Bulgaria)
For Bulgaria, the average-speed enforcement zone data used by the app is compiled from publicly available sources, namely the official Bulgarian toll operator FAQ at bgtoll.bg/vaprosi-i-otgovori and the publicly shared Google Maps dataset at google.com/maps/d/viewer (mid=1bydr93x-u18Oz3lm7ngmWhVTgsP2Eys). We do not guarantee that this data is complete, accurate, or up to date, and enforcement zones may change without notice.
Location data
The app uses your device's fine and coarse location (via Android's location services) to detect when you enter a monitored average-speed zone and to calculate your cumulative average speed through it. This location data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us, stored on our servers, or shared with any third party. It exists only in the app's memory while you're actively in or near a zone.
Account and subscription data
The app uses a small amount of data to manage subscription access:
- Anonymous device identifier. On first launch the app signs in to Firebase Authentication anonymously, generating a random identifier for your device/app install. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, contacts, or any other personally identifying information — we don't collect those.
- Subscription purchase token. If you subscribe through Google Play Billing, the purchase token Google provides is sent to our backend (Firebase Cloud Functions) solely to verify the purchase with Google Play and determine whether your subscription is active. We never see or store your payment card details — Google Play handles the transaction itself.
- Voucher codes. If you redeem a promotional voucher code, the code and its redemption status are stored against your anonymous identifier so it can't be reused.
- Entitlement status. Whether your access is currently active, and its source (subscription or voucher) and expiry, are stored against your anonymous identifier so the app can check access without you re-subscribing on every launch.
What we don't collect
- No name, email address, phone number, or contacts
- No location history — nothing is logged or uploaded
- No advertising identifiers, and the app shows no ads
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- No access to photos, files, microphone, or camera
Permissions the app requests, and why
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Precise / approximate location | Detect average-speed zones and calculate your speed through them, on-device only. |
| Display over other apps | Show the floating speed overlay on top of Waze/Google Maps. |
| Foreground service / notifications | Keep zone tracking running reliably while you drive, with a persistent status notification as required by Android. |
Third parties
We use the following third-party infrastructure, which processes data as described above under their own privacy terms:
- Google Play Billing — processes subscription payments
- Firebase / Google Cloud — hosts our authentication, database, and backend functions
Data retention and deletion
Entitlement and voucher-redemption records are retained for as long as needed to enforce subscription access. Since these records are tied only to an anonymous device identifier, to request deletion, contact us with the request and, if possible, the approximate date you installed the app — see below.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
